Overlake has been performing heart surgery since 1987. This means the surgeons and the entire care team have many years of experience in handling and refining this procedure to achieve the best possible results for patients. Overlake is the only hospital on the Eastside licensed to perform open-heart surgery. Common procedures include coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve repair or replacement, defect repair and myocardial biopsies.

Sound Heart at Overlake has a total of four units that support the cardiac care program: the 11-bed Coronary Care Unit, the 40-bed Progressive Cardiac Care Unit, the 25-bed Cardiac Medical Short Stay Unit and the Chest Pain Center in the Emergency Department.
Dedicated long-term anesthesiologists and cardiovascular surgical teams transition patients quickly and smoothly to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU). Advanced registered nurse practitioners follow all open-heart patients through the surgical experience, and a clinical nurse specialist is dedicated to promoting optimal patient care.
