Cardiac Surgery
Sound Heart's cardiac-surgery quality indicators are nationally recognized:
- Shorter lengths of stay
- Lower risk for complications from cardiac surgical procedures
- Higher patient satisfaction rates
Overlake has been ranked among the top 100 cardiac care hospitals in the country by Solucient. The study concluded that Overlake has significantly higher survival rates, lower rates of complications and shorter lengths of hospital stays.
Overlake stresses sharing best practices and is participating in a regional collaboration to advance surgical infection prevention.
Cardiology
- Combined, Overlake and Evergreen perform more than 6,000 cardiology procedures in 2003.
- Sound Heart at Overlake and Evergreen handles nearly 1,500 interventional cardiac catheterizations every year. The target "door-to-balloon" time is 90 minutes. Sound Heart's door-to-balloon time averaged 78 minutes in 2003.
- Sound Heart cardiologists have been rated top doctors by their peers in Seattle Magazine, which sends confidential surveys to more than 5,000 physicians and clinicians asking who they would see themselves or who they would send a loved one to see.
Rehabilitation
Patients who complete the Sound Heart cardiac rehabilitation program at Evergreen show an improvement in their cholesterol levels, a reduced depression score and reduced body mass index. This program is now available at Overlake. Sound Heart's Cardiac Enhancement Center measures patient outcomes with a depression scale monitored over a period of weeks, a six-minute walking test, the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure test (which measures quality of life) and hospital readmission rates.
