Cardiac Surgery
- Over the last 15 years, Overlake has performed more than 4,500 open-heart surgeries. Common procedures include bypass grafting, valve repair or replacement, defect repair and myocardial biopsies. The cardiac team prides itself on quality care combined with a well-coordinated team approach.
- An advanced registered nurse practitioner follows all patients through the continuum of care, including post-hospital follow-up visits. There is also a clinical nurse specialist to promote optimal patient care throughout cardiac services.
- The 11-bed Cardiac Care Unit at Overlake employs nurses certified in advanced cardiac life support.
Cardiology
A full range of diagnostic and cardiac catheterization services are available through Sound Heart at Overlake and Evergreen.
- A new, state-of-the-art lab at Evergreen for emergency and diagnostic catheterization and echocardiography services. These labs are dedicated to cardiac care and also provide pacemaker insertions for patients in emergency situations.
- Sound Heart at Overlake cardiology services are provided in a leading-edge facility. Services include angioplasty and stent implants; cardiac catheterization; three echocardiography instruments (pharmacological and treadmill stress echo; transesophageal imaging (TEE), electrocardiogram, or ECG (resting ECG, exercise treadmill testing, Holter monitoring and event monitoring), nuclear cardiology (with a nuclear gamma camera) and pacemaker insertions
- Sound Heart at Overlake's catheterization lab was established in 1973 and has shown consistent annual growth. Department staff include registered nurses, radiology technicians and registered cardiovascular technicians, a majority of whom have more than 10 years of experience. These individuals have been with the catheterization lab team for years, resulting in a high level of familiarity with physicians, protocols and equipment.
- Anticoagulation outpatient clinics are available at both hospital campuses.
Rehabilitation
Sound Heart cardiac rehabilitation programs are leading the way to help patients who have experienced heart attack, coronary bypass surgery, cardiology procedures (such as angioplasty) and/or have congestive heart failure. The typical program lasts six to 12 weeks. Rehabilitation at Evergreen.
Sound Heart's Cardiac Enhancement Center at Evergreen is the only clinic of its type in the state of Washington. It provides ongoing support and management for your patients living with chronic, degenerative heart disease. Weekly or biweekly, the clinicians check patients' overall physical well-being and make any necessary medication adjustments. Communication is improved as care is coordinated between primary care providers and heart specialists. Extensive education for patients and support persons is emphasized.
